What You Need To Stop Doing If You Want To Be Productive

Making Excuses

Stop making excuses for why you can’t be productive. Procrastination won’t get you anywhere.

In fact, it will only cause delay and further work.

If you need to get things done, get right to them. Otherwise, they will pile up and you’ll likely end up cramming to finish them.

What kind of results will you produce then?

Not Having To-Do Lists

How are you getting by each day without a to-do list?

A to-do list is there for a reason. It serves as your guide so as to know what tasks need to be done on a daily basis.

This way you will be ensured that you haven’t missed any important task, as oppose to not having a to-do list where you’ll just be doing things randomly.

So make sure you have one at the ready and then don’t forget to cross out the items you’ve done already.

Multi-tasking

How do you approach your tasks? Do you do them one-by-one or do you do them all at the same time?

If you’re doing the latter, stop.

Multi-tasking may let you finish these tasks quickly, but at what cost?

More likely, you’ll end up getting substandard results. Now you don’t want that, do you?

Getting Distracted

You were going to update your blog, but then your favorite TV show comes on. You were going to launch an online product, but you noticed that something is trending on Twitter.

Things come up. But don’t allow yourself to become distracted from doing your tasks.

When distractions obstruct you from being productive and cause you to get stuck in the pit of procrastination, then it’s going to be a problem.

If you want to do other things, then take a 10-minute break every hour or so. This way you’re able to do other things without hurting your productivity.

Beating Yourself Up

You wouldn’t ever beat yourself up physically so why would you do it emotionally and mentally?

You can only do so much. You’re not a superhuman who can do everything at once and get excellent results.

Accept the fact that you’ve reached your capacity for the day. There’s always tomorrow to finish what you can’t today, after all.

Too much time and energy spent on beating yourself up diverts your attention away from more important endeavors like being productive and progressing toward your goals.
