It’s hard to stay focused, let alone productive, when you’d rather do other things of less importance.
Especially if you’re not in the mood to be productive.
Because that blog post can wait, right? And those tweets and Facebook posts that you need to schedule can be put off later, right?
While it’s tempting to just give in and do anything as you please, you need to exercise self-discipline and stay focused to get things done.
But like I said, it’s not easy.
So how do you stay focused and productive?
Make a list
Making a list will make productivity flow easy for you. Whether you prefer to do it the traditional way (pen and paper) or the modern way (word or excel), a to-do list is a glaring reminder that you can’t procrastinate.
You may not know it but without a guide to your to-do tasks, you’re likely to forget what needs to be done.
So make sure to prepare a list and cross off each item as you finish them.
Turn on music
Some people prefer silence when they work, others like to play music. If you fall in the latter category, then go ahead and turn on some music.
Of course, you shouldn’t let the music distract you. Remember that your goal is to work, not to sing.
Which means the volume of the music should be enough to motivate you to stay productive and not the other way around.
Use a time management tool
If you feel like you can’t be productive without a push, then perhaps a time management tool is exactly what you need.
Software tools like the Pomodoro Technique will surely help you get things done.
You can time yourself when you’re working and even while you’re taking a break.
This way you’ll know be able to track how productive you really are. You’ll also be aware of the amount of time you’re wasting doing other things.
Don’t force yourself to speed up
Just because all of the tasks need to meet their respective deadline doesn’t mean you have to finish all of them all at once.
Trust me. Nothing good will come out of it.
If you force yourself to do so, you’re only sacrificing the quality of your work. What’s more, it’s more than likely that you won’t be able to finish a single thing since you’re cramming all of them in a limited amount of time.
Now that you know how to stay focused and productive, let’s put them to use.
